E-Traces: Ballet Slippers That Make Drawings From The Dancer’s Movements
By Andrew Salomone – November 6, 2014

Technology is in everything we do including our movements.  Reading this article illustrates just this with ‘E-Traces’ ballet slippers that allows the dancer to draw as the dancer moves and dances across the floor.  According to Salomone, “The concept of Electronic Traces is based on capturing dance movements and transforming them into visual sensations through the use of new technologies.”  Salomone states that to capture these dance movements focus was put on the ballet shoes which made contact with ground.  The technology to record these movements was recorded through an electronic device by Lilypad Arduino Technology.  According to Salomone, “…through the different functions of this app. ingenious piece of wearable electronics by designer Lesia Trubat Gonzalez called E-Traces.”

It would be amazing to see a group of ballet dancers perform while wearing these ‘E-Traces’ on their ballet shoes. According to Salomone, “A special application will then allow us to show this data graphically and even customize it to suit each user…”  Based on this information, I would like to capture my own dance movements to see what kind of designs I would make.

  1. Very neat. It reminds me of the cool new tech stuff China used in their opening games ceramony for the 2008 olympics.
