Blended Learning

Assignment Title:  Week 1 Blog Post 2
Edutopia: Blended Learning

In the video below, Julie Henderson, Coordinator of Technology, Media and International Relations defines blended learning as "...a combination of digital content and activity with face-to-face contact and activity."  This concept of blended learning has been used successfully by P. K. Younge Developmental Research School in Gainesville, FL to improve the comprehensive test scores of their students.

The teachers at the school were looking for alternative methods of increasing their test scores. They decided to use this concept as an experiment with their students. The different methods that were utilized were contact learning, small groups, tools for supplemental materials, laptops, the Show Me app on the iPads, and podcasts. In the first year, they didn't see an immediate result. However, in the preceding years, the test scores increased from 75% to a whopping 90%. The students became engaged in their learning more than ever. Also, learning became fun and exciting as demonstrated by the video below.
